The Richard Baum Award was developed by the American Boxer Top Twenty Board to recognize those handlers, owner, junior and professional, who best exemplify the true spirit of professionalism both in the ring and out, superb care for the dogs in their charge, and a genuine love for Boxers.
These criteria were easily determined, as the Board needed to look only as far as Dick Baum for their mode. Dick’s genuine love of Boxers, tireless care of the dogs entrusted to him and Christine, and absolute professionalism over the years has become legendary in the Boxer world.
One need only experience Dick free-baiting a Boxer off leash in the show ring to understand the relationship Dick has with a Boxer. It was this Baum “signature” that formed the concept for DannyQuest to create the original bronze presented to Dick, May 4, 1998, which shall be duplicated for presentation to future winners.
The Richard Baum Award shall be presented during the Top Twenty Competition, held in conjunction with the American Boxer Club National Specialty, to a handler most typifying Dick’s lofty standards after nominations by the thirty-member Top Twenty Committee, and election by the Top Twenty Board.
